Thirty years ago today, ADA!
It was exactly thirty years to the day that President George H.W. Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into law. With this mandate, there is increased physical access to buildings and facilities, a clearly defined meaning of "disability" to allow for ease of interpretation, and closed movie captioning in theaters.
Last year, I had the opportunity to live in Japan and I saw these sidewalk blocks EVERYWHERE. There are known as "Tenji Blocks" and they are for the visually impaired. In a nutshell, stripes = safe path, bumps = hazard.
I never cease to marvel at our ability change and innovate, and when we provide ALL members of society access and the opportunity to be included, we ALL win!
